Limoliner was founded in 2003 by business entrepreneur Fergus McCann of Scotland. He had personally experienced the frustration of hassles and delays on other modes of transportation in the northeast market including air and rail, and knew there had to be a better way. His vision was a luxury ground transportation service like no other, a coach bus with oversized reclining leather seats, amenities including satellite TV and radio, Wi-Fi, and on-board movies, and most importantly, an attendant aboard to serve food and beverage and cater to individual needs. Limoliner is 100% web reservation based so that customers can book any time of day, and choose their single or double seat. It’s much like first class on an airplane, without leaving the ground. McCann expanded the service over the years by adding trips and new vehicles to the fleet. In 2014 he decided to retire and sell the business.
Limoliner was acquired by Hamilton Transportation Group, with part owner and President, Mark Richardson taking the helm. The new ownership took over the fleet of Limoliners and kept the company’s employees and office/garage facility. Richardson has over 25 years’ experience in the transportation industry, starting as a driver while in college, and serving in management in both the private and public sectors. “When I looked at Limoliner, I really liked the niche market that the company served between the regular crowded intercity buses and air/rail. Our goal is to take the business to the next level in all aspects of the service” Richardson said. During their first year the new management has upgraded the fleet and invested in new motorcoaches, and has rebranded with a revised logo and fleet paint design. In an era which airlines are eliminating on-board food, Limoliner has broadened the menu options to include salads and hot entrees in addition to sandwiches, all included in the fare. The company believes in technology and recently invested in a new on-board Wi-Fi system as well as a state of the art website. The new limoliner.com will allow customers to create and manage their own travel account, earn points toward free travel rewards, and track their vehicle location in real time. The next development will be a new “App” optimized for smart phones for booking trips on the move.
Limoliner is based in Stoughton, Massachusetts, with a fleet of seven Liners and over 20 employees including office, driver, attendant, and maintenance staff.
